Audacity is a free and open-source audio editor, offering useful features such as Recording, Export / Import and Editing. You can use it to make audio out of video. But to do this, you first need to install the FFmpeg library. Without it, you won’t be able to import a video into Audacity, let alone extract audio from it.
Step 1. Download and install Audacity.
Step 2. Install FFmpeg. Audacity Manual has instructions for this.
Step 3. Manually locate the FFmpeg library. You can also find the instructions in Audacity Manual.
Step 4. Now drag the video into Audacity, and the app will only import audio from the video.
Step 5. From the menu bar, select File > Export and then select a desired export format such as MP3 or OGG.
As you can see, the method is not that straightforward. It is not recommended unless you have already installed Audacity and the FFmpeg library.
In addition to the audio extractors talked about above, there are also online services to help you with the task. Audio-extractor.net is one of them. Since this method is web-based, it can also be used on Windows and other operating systems.
Step 1. Open your web browser. Go to https://audio-extractor.net/.
Step 2. Click Open video and upload the video file.
Step 3. Use the default audio format (MP3) or select the format you need.
Step 4. Click Extract audio.
Step 5. Click Download.
You are required to upload your video to their server first. If the video is large, it will take a long time to upload, which lacks efficiency.
In addition to these audio extractors, apps such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Vegas Pro can also extract audio from video on Mac effectively without quality loss.
